Grading Policies and Guidelines

The One Point Rubric System

A single-point rubric breaks down the components of an assignment into different criteria. What makes it different is that it only describes the criteria for proficiency; it does not attempt to list all the ways a student could fall short, nor does it specify how a student could exceed expectations.

When your child receives this rubric, it will include written comments on one or both sides of each category, telling them exactly how they fell short and how they excelled.  If a target was simply met, you can just highlight the appropriate phrase in the center column.

The class will use a folder called an "Evidence Folder" where they will keep their class work.  One side of the folder will be for Research - this will be class notes, Engineering Design Process Organizers, and other information students use to complete tasks.  The other side of the folder will be for Progress - this will be assessements and work done in class that students will eventually turn in.

This will also be where the "Goals & Reflections" log is stored, where students will keep track of the Learning Target and Successful criteria of the day and then answer questions about the day's work.  This will be used as a weekly quiz to help students understand their effort and progress through the course.

The scoring for my class will be simplified using the Standard's Based Grading System, which is reflected in the Mastery Assessment section of the digital textbook. The scoring is as follows: A 0 = 50, which means no work was done. A 1 = 65, which shows incomplete work. A 2 = 75, which shows incomplete work, but moving towards understanding the content. A 3 = 85 which means understanding the content, but can improve. A 4 = 95, which means the students has a solid understanding of the work. For students to earn a 100, they need to show an exceptional understanding of the work, which can be acheived by going beyond what the lesson asks  Use the link at the top of this page to get to a course.  The Mastery Assessment will be used as a performance assessment, which will follow the Engineering Design Process Organizer. This is a progress chart worksheet that will help students know what they are required to do in class, and where the teacher will record their progress for them so they are always aware of how they are doing in class.

This grading policy will be subject to changes at any time, but never allowed to negatively impact students.  Changes will always be made to improve assessment quality and accuracy while improving efficiency.

Evidence Folder

Students will use a folder to keep track of their "Goals & Reflections Log", their research and progress for the course, and keep track of assignments.  Students can always find copies of these on their respective course page.

X2 Grading Portal

The X2 Grading Portal is where students can check their grades, report cards, and progress of their classes.  This is also where students can find their schedules, and see their school information, such as lunch pin and email information.

Digital Textbooks

All of the assignments can be found in the digital textbook, which can be found on the course page.   All of the information, resources, assessments, and rubrics can be found in this textbook and can be accessed from any device that can reach the website.
