Grading Policies and Guidelines

The One Point Rubric System

A single-point rubric breaks down the components of an assignment into different criteria. What makes it different is that it only describes the criteria for proficiency; it does not attempt to list all the ways a student could fall short, nor does it specify how a student could exceed expectations.

When your child receives this rubric, it will include written comments on one or both sides of each category, telling them exactly how they fell short and how they excelled.  If a target was simply met, you can just highlight the appropriate phrase in the center column.

Class Lessons

Visual Notes: The class will use a notebook in class where they will take "Visual Notes" a type of note taking where students can visual what they are learning through images, diagrams, and graphics. The notebooks will be graded one a week and will be weighed as 25% of their total grade.
The Challenge: Students will be given something called a "Challenge" which is like Practical exam where the student is expected to do an actual activity to demonstrate what they have learned. This will be an activity that the students with do in a group with no help from the teacher. This practical exam will be weighed as 35% of their total grade.
The Final Exam: Students will be given a written exam that will have them demonstrate what they have learned through real-world problems. Students will be given scenario's that they will have to either describe how it works, or solve a problem given in the scenario. This Final Exam will be weighed as 45% of their total grade.

This grading policy will be subject to changes at any time, but never allowed to negatively impact students.  Changes will always be made to improve assessment quality and accuracy while improving efficiency.

Visual Notebooks

Students will use a notebook to keep their visual notes in. Students can use different colored pencils or markers (brought in from home, not supplied by the teacher) to help illustrate and organize what they have learned in class.

The X2 Grading Portal is where students can check their grades, report cards, and progress of their classes.  This is also where students can find their schedules, and see their school information, such as lunch pin and email information.
