Robotics Club: First Lego League Competition Team!

The Robotics Club is Memorial's competition Lego Robot Team.  We are a member of the First Lego League and compete against other schools and organizations across the state.  Part of the competition is scored on  Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition through the Core Values which are:
  • Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.
  • Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
  • Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.
  • Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.
  • Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.
  • Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!

Every year there is a new theme where the team has to design a robot or two to complete challenges, present their work and their decisions to a panel of judges and work together to earn as many points as possible to win awards.  The challenges are not easy, but the rewards are many and we have fun competing!

Our club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays in the STEM Lab in room 243!

The FIRST LEGO League challenge this year is called MASTERPIECE. Students will learn about the role science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) plays in the arts and will imagine and innovate new ways to create and communicate art across the globe.

Using our Spike Lego Robot kits and our Challenge Arena, students will design robots that will move around the arena to complete challenges based on the theme.  Some robots will have to move levers, others will have to deliver objects to check points, and other challenges will be to trigger an object to move across the arena.

We compete multiple times a year a different locations through out the state.  Most of the time, we will compete at Worcestor Polytechnical Institute (WPI), but sometimes we will compete at other schools.  Competition season starts August 1, so we will have a Robotics Bootcamp sometime in August to learn about the new season, plan our designs and choose roles.  Students will be involved in every aspect and there is no help from the Team Coaches.  Students are expected to participate in all areas and be ready to travel to competitions to present and participate.
